Leadership & organisation

Shared initiative. Clear responsibility.

A flat management approach that gives expertise a voice and decisions an owner. Leadership is a contribution to the work and the people doing it.

Our direction

Keep people close to the decisions.

The organisational model we want to build is horizontal: direct access to context, room to take initiative and a clear conversation between the people affected by a decision. A useful idea should be heard because of its relevance and evidence.

Flat management still needs ownership. The person responsible for a decision listens to relevant perspectives, explains the choice and follows its effects. Shared participation does not remove the need to resolve priorities or address a concern.

This page presents an operating model for the studio as it develops. Responsibilities will be assigned to the people actually involved in each collaboration, with a clear scope and contact point.

Responsibilities around the product

Complementary perspectives, one shared context.

These are responsibilities to organise around a product, rather than a list of appointed executives or separate management layers.

01

Product & priorities

Frame the user need, agree the next useful outcome and keep the scope understandable. Make trade-offs visible and revisit priorities when the evidence changes.

02

Engineering & reliability

Explain technical choices, assess operational risks and make testing and handover part of delivery. Raise concerns early enough for the team to act.

03

People & professional context

Bring user feedback, accessibility and the reality of professional practice into the discussion. Check whether the proposed workflow makes sense for the people using it.

04

Partnerships & commitments

Clarify who is involved, what each party contributes and which commitments can be made. Keep commercial conversations connected to the actual product scope and delivery capacity.

From discussion to action

A decision should be understandable afterwards.

A lightweight decision process keeps initiative open while making responsibility visible.

01

Frame the question

Write the problem, the constraints and the outcome to seek. Name the person responsible for taking the decision.

02

Hear the relevant voices

Ask the people who hold the expertise or will live with the effects. Make disagreements specific enough to examine.

03

Choose and explain

Make a proportionate choice, record the reasons and identify the next action and its owner.

04

Review what happened

Return to the outcome at an agreed point. Keep what works and adjust when the result calls for another approach.
